30 peacocks found dead in Kutch
16 October 2018
A total of 30 peacocks were found dead in Adesar sanctuary area of Kutch. Twenty five peahens and five peacocks were found dead on Wednesday noon when the priest of Rajbai temple visited the area. He later informed the sarpanch of Gagodar village and forest department officials. The department has collected the samples and sent to FSL for investigation. According to eyewitneses, the peacocks were found dead behind the temple of Rajbai Mata in the jungle area. It is a secluded area and it is suspected that someone had mixed poison with the grains fed to the birds.
Range forest official M A Kureshi who immediately rushed to the spot said,We found 28 peacocks dead and two struggling for life. They have been taken to a nearby hospital. Barley and wheat grains were found on the ground with shrubs around, said Pujari Dipak Gusai. He said there are more than 1,500 peacocks in the area. A few days ago, pigeons were found dead in the same area, claim villagers who have sought a probe into the incident.
